When we found out we were pregnant, we were quite shocked (find out why in HerStory post).
Half of all American mothers did not plan their pregnancy. So it's a surprise to me that there are so many dumb people who ask the inevitable question: "Well, were you guys trying?"
My typical reply is "we weren't trying not to," but I suppose those people are more curious about a stranger's sex life than they are with the physics of baby-making.
If you are in the same position, you are likely filled with a mix of emotions as I was. It can be hard not to feel the pressure of society standards and slip into a slump of guilty feelings. So I have come up with a list of 6 reasons why a surprise conception is pretty damn fun.
You are positively blessed; plenty of women try for years to get pregnant without conceiving.
You finally have an excuse for a few "cheat meals"
You can stop beating yourself up over gaining a couple healthy pounds, despite gym efforts
Vintage is making a comeback, your lovechild is trendy
Picking names, nursery decor and registering is a new and in-the-moment experience... sometimes spontaneity is the ultimate creative muse
And of course, you can now "try" as much as you want to!
