New York crosswalks are normally crowded with commuters and troves of tourists on a mission for their destination. This afternoon an Upper East Side intersection became an immediate pitstop attraction for locals and visitors alike as a woman gave birth on the sidewalk, encircled by on-lookers.
Polly, the mother of two went into labor with her third baby in her apartment and was immediately assisted by her doorman in hailing a cab. Apparently, giving birth is easier than getting a Taxi in Manhattan, because before a car could stop to take her to Lenox Hospital, Polly, was producing a little girl on the side of the street.
She was assisted by a the doorman and a two female passerbys. One woman, Isabel, gave Polly her coat, while another swaddled the baby with her scarf. An ambulance and Polly's husband arrived within minutes of the delivery and Fox5NY news captured the whole story to share for years to come.
Talk about a New York Minute.
UPDATE: Mom and baby, Isla "Isabel" McCourt are fine
